Chief is a Shetland Paint.... Stud! He's 15 years old and pretty easy going. He's small and easy for the kids to handle. We really adore him too.
We recently sold 2 horses and reduced the herd to just 3 horses. Chief being the stud that he is wanted to let Pony know that the mare was his. He chased poor Pony for a very long time. Since his mind was only on one thing he missed place his senses and plowed, at a full run, into a gate held into place by a railroad tie fence post. He split his head open and required stitches.
Pretty scary when you are in the middle of it, but once the emergency part is over and the mess cleaned up, it doesn't look so bad. Needless to say, he will being seeing the Vet on Tues. the 20th to end some of that hard headed stud attitude.
